Khun Thai Tea Opens Second Branch In Manila
Take a break from the hustle of and bustle of crowded Manila, and slake your thirst for a Thai vacation with a sip of this authentic Thai iced-tea, made from a recipe that harks back to 1955.
Manila, Philippines, 30 September, 2016 – Khun Thai Tea, the trendy authentic Thai iced-tea push cart sensation with a 61-year heritage, has just doubled its presence in the Philippines with the opening of a second outlet at Star City Amusement Park, Manila, at Star Parks Corporation Roxas Boulevard.
Franchised from original Thai tea pushcart founder, Auntie Marlee, the closely-guarded Khun Thai Tea recipe was first enjoyed in Bangkok in 1955. Khun Thai Tea opened in Manila in June of 2016, 61 years later, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Both outlets are a collaboration between Bronze Media LLP Singapore founders, Ms. Elis Chai and Mr. Jeremy Lee, and Filipino native Ms. Nancy Padilla.
Said Mr. Lee, “We are continuing our plans to spread the delights of Khun Thai Tea around Manila with the opening of our second outlet, so that even more Filipinos can enjoy the taste of authentic Thai tea Cha-Yen. And to celebrate the occasion, the Star City outlet will be featuring daily special offers aimed at letting local Pinoys get a taste of each and every item on our menu.”
Describing the outlet’s offerings, Ms. Padilla said, “Our Khun Thai Tea menu is based on the original recipe for a refreshing black iced-tea (‘cha-yen’ in Thai) which called for strongly brewed ceylon tea.”
“In time, ceylon was replaced with a Thai-grown assam tea known as ‘Bai Miang’, infused with spices to maintain the headiness of the original and bring out its complex flavours. The traditional sugar, condensed milk and evaporated milk-heavy recipe has also been updated to a more contemporary and healthy version suitable for modern health-conscious consumers.“
All this was done, said Ms. Padilla, without taking away from the authentic traditional taste of the tea. Small chewy tapioca balls (‘boba’, or bubbles) are added to further excite the palate with a tantalising array of textures and flavours.
In addition to the original recipe, Ms. Padilla added, the two local Khun Thai Tea outlets also offer refreshing variations of the concoction, such as a mix of coffee and tea (‘Yuan Yang’), fruit juice infused blends like ‘Berry Ice Tea’, and other innovative and exciting combinations that are sure to please everyone.
Further expansion plans are in the works, according to Mr. Lee. “We are going to take Khun Thai Tea to Jakarta in Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Phnom Penh in Cambodia.” The company is also looking for enterprising individuals interested in opening their own Khun Thai Tea franchises.
So if you are reading this in Indoneisa, Malaysia, or Cambodia, keep an eye out in your city – there might be a Khun Thai Tea opening near you.
